The COVID 19 Pandemic has been impacting the world for nearly two years now. What started as a virus that many thought would pass after a few months, has now gone on to change the landscape of life and business around the world. While I’m sure many people have enjoyed being able to stay home and work while still in their pyjamas, those in the Event Industry are having to work harder than ever.
My time working and learning about the industry so far, has been very different to what I imagined. Our focus now not only revolves around planning and running events, it also involves a lot more risk management and planning for the ever-changing restrictions and rules.
Event Management now poses the questions of “How do we ensure our patrons can social distance?” and “What happens if we have to cancel the event?” and hand sanitising stations and QR Codes are now common practise throughout all venues.
Something that we have been discussing is how the border restrictions currently in place throughout Australia are impacting the attendance of the events. We are currently planning an event where many of our speakers are located in the Eastern States and some will not be able to attend.
So how do we ensure that we are still able to run events? Planning and adapting! Event organisers have to plan for the best, the worst, and everything in between and be ready for changes to occur at the eleventh hour.
